Home > Firearm Responsibility
For various reasons, many households these days have firearms. It is important to recognize the responsibility that is required and necessary with owning or storing a firearm in your home. Some of these homes with guns are the homes of police officers, security personnel, etc. Their jobs require that they carry their guns at all times, when on the job.
There are also many other homes with licensed firearms. Many of the people in these households keep their guns/rifles for purposes other than work related reasons. Some folks enjoy hunting as a sport. Others keep guns in their homes for protection against intruders or dangerous criminals. Target shooting as a hobby is also increasing in popularity.
You need to understand the importance of storing your firearms safely, especially if you have children in your home. Hiding your firearms in a closet in your bedroom does not protect your family from harm. Small children like to explore and can easily find a gun in a closet or under a bed. You must always remember that the best way to protect yourself and your family is to ensure that your firearms are hidden away and locked. Storing them in a safe in which only you know the combination is one way you can keep your family safe. A multitude of gun storage devices, as well as locking devices that attach directly to the gun, are available in most gun shops.
Also, remember to always keep the guns empty. Many children, teenagers, as well as adults are accidentally shot, sometimes fatally, because precautions were not taken to prevent such tragedies.
