Home > Tactical Holster Info
Duty holsters are sometimes worn on the thigh of the leg. This type of duty holster is known as a tactical holster or thigh holster. Tactical duty holsters are common among military personnel and police SWAT officers. They are generally made of a nylon or plastic material and come in many finishes including camouflage, black, coyote and desert tan depending on the users needs and application. Tactical holsters usually have less levels of weapon retention then the standard police duty holster. It is common for Military personell to use what is often referred to as a MOLLE compatible holster.
MOLLE (pronounced MOLLY) is an acronym for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment. The MOLLE system was introduced in 1997. The system makes use of webbing. Rows of heavy-duty nylon are stitched onto the vest or leg platform as to allow for attachment and easy removal of various MOLLE-compatible holsters, pouches and accessories. This method of attachment has become somewhat of a standard for all quality modular military gear. MOLLE tactical holsters and gear have become popular with police tactical units as well in recent years due to its flexibility.
