Kydex Holsters

Home  > Kydex

Synthetic holsters have gained much popularity over the last decade. One of the most popular synthetics being used for holster production is Kydex. Kydex is a synthetic thermoplastic material that is now widely used in the gun holster market. Uncle Mike's, Sidearmor and Bladetech are a some holster makers that utilize Kydex in their holster designs.

In addition to Kydex holsters, other applications for this material include airplane interiors, food processing equipment, electrical components, medical products, and store fixture components. Kydex is typically produced in sheets of varying thickness and color, which are then cut and formed. Kydex sheet products are extremely durable thermoplastic alloys. The sheets are non-porous and are easily molded into the desired shape by heating, forming, and cooling the material.

Kydex holsters have a number of advantages over leather and nylon. They are waterproof, scratch resistant, lightweight and hold their shape which makes re-holstering your gun much easier than with a less rigid leather holster. Many belt accessories are also available in Kydex to complement your holster such as Kydex magazine holders, light pouches, baton holders and handcuff cases. One important drawback of kydex holsters is their limited flexibility. Where leather holsters are supple and conform easily to the body, kydex is a rigid thermoplastic that lacks this same flexibility.
